Guesthouse
Húsið
About Húsið
Our lovely house, Húsið, was built in 1929; it has a rich heritage and varied history. This beautiful traditional style building, originally built as a schoolhouse and then used as a community meeting place, has ably stood the test of time. Today Húsid still looks very beautiful, located in the glorious setting of Fljótshlíð valley and against the backdrop of the three peaked mountain, Thrihirningur and the famous Eyjafjallajökull glacier.
For the last 25 years of Husid’s history it has become known as Húsid Guesthouse. As well as being ideal for independent travellers, as singles or in small parties, for approaching 20 years now, Húsið has also been working with school groups. Coming from various countries, we can provide all of their accommodation needs at the heart of south coast Iceland.

Travel in Iceland – Kirkjubæjarklaustur
Travel in Iceland - Kirkjubæjarklaustur. We, as a family have decided to spend some days camping in Kirkjubæjarklaustur, to explore the area of Skaftárhreppur. It is said that Kirkjubæjarklaustur is the centre of the South and if you want to encounter the earth,...
Location
Húsid Guesthouse is located in glorious Fljotshlid Valley, in south central Iceland. It is an easy and most scenic 90 minute drive from Reykjavík, turning off the “1” Ring Road for the last 10 minutes of the journey to reach Húsid.
Three icecaps loom over the Flótshlíd valley, including the now famous Eyjafjallajökull, the volcano that “stopped the world” for a number of days in 2010.
Situated in the recently designated Katla Geopark, Guesthouse Húsid is certainly located in a most dynamic location. Many scenic gems are to be found within easy striking distance. Waterfalls abound, large and small (including Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss). The Atlantic Coast is only a short distance away and includes the Westmann Islands, a great day out well worthy of considering using the short ferry ride. Iceland’s glaciers too can be seen close up with the opportunity to take a glacier hike for the more adventurous on Sólhemajökull.
With Guesthouse Húsid being located in the countryside, it offers dark winter nights with no light pollution, ideal for viewing the stars and the Northern Lights when conditions are right. Often the Northern Lights stream directly overhead Guesthouse Húsid.
Combining the stunning location with our cosy Guesthouse Húsid accommodation – which can include home cooked, traditional meals – allows our guests a deliciously tantalising taste of the very real, most true Iceland.
